Use Eco-Friendly Inks

If you haven’t already, switch over to water-based inks. Not only are they better for the environment, they’re also bolder, long-lasting, and easier to use. When your customer outwears their clothing, the ink will degrade just as well as the blank clothing you printed it on. The traditional plastisol inks are popular with screen printers, but they simply don’t break down as easily as water-based ink.

Many screen printers choose plastisol inks because their inexpensive and don’t dry out, but the reason that they don’t dry out is because they contain PVC. PVC is one of the most environmentally damaging of all plastics — which is saying something because no plastic is a good for the earth! Plastisol inks also contain phthalates, which is known for its toxicity, and while you can find phthalate-free inks, there are no plastisol inks that don’t contain PVC.

Stay Away From Aerosols

Just like with your ink, you should consider the chemicals in aerosols. Many screen printers use aerosols to clean up, but they contain cancer-causing chemicals that are bad for both your employees and the environment. There are plenty of eco-friendly cleaning supplies to choose from, and while they may cost a tiny bit more, it’s worth it for everyone’s health.

Use Eco-Friendly Packaging
