Now more than ever it’s important for businesses to consider their environmental impact — and that includes screen printing companies! Our blank bulk apparel is sent to customers across the country, many of whom use our blank T-shirts, french terry cloth shorts, blank joggers, and more as canvasses for their art.

In today’s blog we’ll be sharing some tips for running a more eco-friendly screen printing shop. If you do a lot of screen printing, consider incorporating some of these practices into your business. Not only will you be helping the environment, but you can also promote your green practices to set yourself apart from the competition. Use Eco-Friendly Inks

If you haven’t already, switch over to water-based inks. Not only are they better for the environment, they’re also bolder, long-lasting, and easier to use. When your customer outwears their clothing, the ink will degrade just as well as the blank clothing you printed it on. The traditional plastisol inks are popular with screen printers, but they simply don’t break down as easily as water-based ink.

Many screen printers choose plastisol inks because their inexpensive and don’t dry out, but the reason that they don’t dry out is because they contain PVC. PVC is one of the most environmentally damaging of all plastics — which is saying something because no plastic is a good for the earth! Plastisol inks also contain phthalates, which is known for its toxicity, and while you can find phthalate-free inks, there are no plastisol inks that don’t contain PVC.

Stay Away From Aerosols

Just like with your ink, you should consider the chemicals in aerosols. Many screen printers use aerosols to clean up, but they contain cancer-causing chemicals that are bad for both your employees and the environment. There are plenty of eco-friendly cleaning supplies to choose from, and while they may cost a tiny bit more, it’s worth it for everyone’s health.

Use Eco-Friendly Packaging

Packaging is a big part of selling anything — our bulk clothing company knows that, we ship bulk apparel across the country! But you should be mindful of how you wrap, ship, and sell your products. There are plenty of options for more eco-friendly packaging, whether it’s just changing to paper bags in-store or larger recycled-based poly-mailers. Pro-tip: you can also re-use the boxes that your order of bulk apparel from Smartex Apparel came in when you’re shipping out a big order!

Get Your Size And Quantities Right

Running an eco-friendly business is all about cutting waste and using only what you need to use. You may be using great ink, packaging, and cleaning products, but if your ordering contains waste in the first place, you’re much less green than you could be. Think about the numbers you need when you place a bulk apparel order to make sure that you don’t end up with piles of extra product in the back of your store. Take excellent inventory so that you know what sizes you need the most of, and which ones you can stock less of. If you’re printing a big order like company T-shirts, find out ahead of time which sizes you need and how many of each. Not only will you ensure that your customer has exactly what they need, but you’ll also use less energy, ink, and fabric than you would without proper planning.

Recycle As Much As You Can

Create eco-friendly practices within your business, like recycling. You can also recycle things like misprinted tees by using them as rags. You can save things like leftover ink for small print tests — as you keep eco-friendly practices in the front of your mind, you’ll continually find ways to reduce your business’s environmental impact. It’s not only good for the environment, recycling and reusing is also good for your bottom line.

Print on High-Quality Blank Clothing

As a blank apparel company, we have to add that it’s good for the environment to print your dizziness on high-quality blanks. Cheap, fast fashion is a big contributor to waste, which means higher quality garments are always the better choice for those who want to run a more eco-conscious business. High-quality blank apparel will last longer, and your customers will be less likely to wear them out and throw them away. Plus, your prints will look better and won’t shrink — making for more happy customers.
